VT have pioneered the democratisation of remote DGA analysis for low voltage distribution assets. For the first time, it is now feasible to roll out low cost solid state IoT enabled hydrogen sensing across distribution assets to provide the gold standard of asset health diagnostics.
We live in an era of growing demand for electricity, which makes understanding transformer health critical to reliably meeting customer demand, and avoiding disruption.
Hydrogen is generated when significant issues like overheating, partial discharge and arcing occur in transformers. Continuous and real time monitoring of hydrogen tracks and alerts operators to small problems before they become big problems. Hydrogen monitoring provides continuous real time data and is dramatically less expensive than installing multi-gas monitors.
VT Electron’s Hydrogen Sensing Monitors is a proven solid state sensor that’s small and compact. It delivers high accuracy with no requirement for ongoing calibration or maintenance (10 years+ guaranteed). This sensor has been designed to provide precision hydrogen measurement, at a lower cost (by thousands of euros). This solid-state sensing element is hydrogen specific and insensitive to other transformer gases. It can be immersed directly in the transformer oil during normal operation to measure hydrogen levels continuously. Using the same sensor we can also accurately monitor the in oil temperature. The IoT sensor has no moving parts and does not require carrier or calibration gases to maintain accuracy.
